Limited edition release in the Last Kreep DJ/battle record series
on Chip Shop Spam, this amazing album is even better than its
predecessor (The Good Scratching Record). Since a
decade ago when his pioneering battle record Hamster Breaks
(that he co-produced with fellow Bulletproof Scratch Hamsters
				- Quest & Cue) caught the scratch DJ world by storm, prolific
DJ/producer Eddie Def (aka The Last Kreep), has been a busy man
juggling a zillion projects including his countless solo projects
(under various names), recording with his crew the Bullet Proof
Space Travelers, plus his collaborations with such artists as
Bill Laswell (look for his contribution to the recent Bill Laswell
produced Scratch soundtrack), Mike Patton, Buckethead,
El Stew etc. etc. Space Breaks is the follow up to
last years The Good Scratching Record (Chip
Shop Spam). Like that record Space Breaks has also
been painstakingly tailored to satisfy the itch in todays
scratch/battle/turntablist DJ. So get two copies and use it, abuse
it, manipulate it any way possible, and scratch it, and scratch
it, and scratch it, and scratch it, and scratch it.    | |

(500 copies pressed, B-side Women With Mustaches Make me
Nervous!). Hailing from Dayton, Ohio (Mr. Dibbs country)
the brilliant, albeit underrated, NoNekNed has been creating skratch
havoc since 98 along with partner 1e Tch3, under the name
Skratchmatix. Last year they released the battle record Vinyl
Viagra which was pressed in Cali so they drove out all the
way from Ohio to pick it up and also hang out for a few weeks
in San Francisco last summer. Current projects for the innovative
duo include a music project about UFOs and flying
saucers which is a collaboration with the Bay Areas
Future Primitive Sound Session. Contact NNN poolan1@aol.com or

DJ T-Rock has two full-length albums: Whos Your Daddy
on Bomb Hip Hop (love that cover) and last years SikInTheHed
on Stereotype Records/Nu Gruv. He has also contributed tracks

has also co-produced a song on OM Records Deeper Concentration
Vol. III plus hes produced the music for TV spot on
Cartoon Network. He can be seen in John Carluccios Battle

in the studio recording a few different projects including a 6

				but strategic points.CONTACT: djt_rock@hotmail.com
 4) Relm & Streak WeDigChicksDotCom (LIVE) (6:13)
Formerly of the Supernatural Turntable Artists (STA) these two
busy and fun-loving turntablists (DJs Relm and Streak) add a much
needed dose of entertainment and humor (not to mention lots of
breastessssss: check the covers of their PornoStas battle records)
to a genre that can often lacks both. On bonus track (#23) they
talk about their latest venture (the website that gave name to
this live turntables assault: www.wedigchicks.com). At the start
of 2002 Relm started producing a weekly skratch music/interview
segment for Bay Area commercial station Wild 94.9FM Contacts:
djrelm@yahoo.com, djstreak@hotmail.com, www.wedigchicks.com 5) Album Cover To Masturbate To (Crude Interlude)
(:10) This sound-montage includes DJ Pone referring to the cover
of Streaks Lingerie Breaks (PornoStas), a multifunctional
battle record that brings new meaning to the term bedroom
DJ.Check out DJ Pones informative report in these CD liner
notes on the relation between turntablism and porno. Contact:

 6) D-Styles/Pone/Snayk Eyez Morbid Innuendo of the Skratch
Kind (LIVE) (5:40)Taken from one of the times when D-Styles (a regular show guest)
stopped by to join the 89 Skratch Gangstaz Pone and
Snayk Eyez for a totally improv session that rocks hard and demonstrates
the collective talents of these three Bay Area natives. Most noteworthy
is the amazingly gifted D-Styles (Beat Junkies/former ISP), whose
long-awaited debut album (as distinct from his countless Dirt
Style battle records), will soon drop. Titled Phantazmagorea
it was premiered on Scratch Attack and is described
by DJ Stoic as Easily the best solo scratch album
.it
succeeds on several levels: the quirky, the dark, the perv, the
headnod-ridin and the raw b-boy battle circle.
 7) DJ Stoic Autumn Shuffle (2:46)Seasonal scratch music is how we categorized this
moody autumn scratch tune (recorded especially for Scratch
Attack) from DJ Stoic. It can also be found on the Oakland
based/San Diego raised DJs underground CD Jack Move
& the Beer Belly Blues CD. An in-house producer with
Hip Hop Slam since 2000, DJ Stoic has added his production and
skratch skills to several releases including the Turntables
By The Bay series, Global Turntables, Shigger
Fragger Battle Beats Breaks Loops & Shit, and other
upcoming releases. He is currently on lockdown in his Oakland
studio, charged with felony crate digging with intent to beat-jack,
but is using the time to fine-tune his anticipated official debut
album, slated for a late summer 2002 release on Hip Hop Slam.

exhibit dedicated to Bay Area Filipino DJs. On the bonus track
#23 you will hear 8-Ball recalling how young Bay Area DJs
first got into the artform back in the early days. More recently
8-Ball has recorded such tracks as his tone-happy The Poetry
of War of the Flies (from Turntables By The Bay)
and is currently finishing up an electro CD. Contact: cls8saiyan@aol.com 9) Coretex (feat. DJ Vandal & Rubian) Skratch Caffeine

Dutch town of Sneek (Note: at last count there were five scratch
DJs in the town of 35,000). He formed the S.W.O.T. Team
(Science and Wisdom Of Turntablism) with DJ Knowledge, Mista Sweet,
and his younger brother DJ Sniper and as such contributed a track

DJ he won the first ever DMC Battle for World Supremacy in San
Francisco in 2000 and made it into the semifinals in the DMC World

concept was manifested one late nite at the Octagon, demonstrates
QBerts sheer brilliance both as a skratch-master and producer.
Turbo Paws sci-fi/surreal/skratch/mood offered Q inspiration
for the music that he later recorded for Rollinthe
forthcoming video game by X-Box and Nintendo Game Cube which will
also feature music by the Finger Bangerz. Commented QBert, Attention
skratch DJs. Go buy this video game when it comes out!
Also get the DVDs Wave Twisters (if you havent

Taken from the critically acclaimed GENUINE ELECTRIC LATIN LOVE
MACHINE featuring DJ Jester the Filipino Fists Introducing
the Neat Beat (Compulsive) which has been likened to the
creative output of Kid Koala and DJ Logic. San Antonios
Greg Michael Pendon, AKA DJ Jester the Filipino Fist, started
creating a buzz last year when his River Walk Riots CD
showed up on US college radio (inc. WFMU) and in the pages of
such magazines as Giant Robot, Spin, URB, and the Wire. This led
to Jesters latest collaborative project, GELLM, on which
he hooks up with Rod Castro (AKA Quad Rod) and Chris Smart (AKA
Smarty): both veterans of the South Texas music scene and who
are also members of the Mechanical Walking Robot Boy. Note: GELLM
borrows its name from an eclectic early Moog record by Richard
Hayman and its sounds from such sources as cell phones, tape recorders,
computers, guitars, and thrift store records.

			   06) Bas-1 "To All The DJ's" (2:12)
Taken from the April 8, 2002 Scratch Attack show at the
Vulcan is this live version of Bas-1s tribute to skratch
DJs with the Oakland Faders on the turns. Note that the (unreleased)
studio version of To All The DJs is produced
				by Fanatik.

			   07) DJ Tico & H.O.P. "It's.....Teeko" (1:59)
Also from the Vulcan, April 2002 Scratch Attack session
is this tight skratch performance from DJs Tico and H.O.P. Tico,
who is now known as Teeko, started battling in 1999. His titles
include 2000 - 2001 El Cerrito Guitar Center Champion, 2001 UC
Berkely Battle Champion (Tie), 2001 SF Kool Mixx Champion, 2001-2002
SF DMC Finalist and 2002 Vestax USA Finalist. He is featured on
Arcanum Blitz by Devro, various recordings by Dj Nature,
MasterBeaters Productions, Bay Area Expo DVD, Showcase DVD, and
on QBerts Do It Yourself Vol. 2 DVD. H.O.P. also
makes a cameo in the new QBert DVD. H.O.P., who moved to the Bay
from San Diego a few years ago, took first in the one and only
DJ battle he entered: at Zebra in March 2000. But hes normally
not into battling, he says. My thing is compostion not competition.
He has two mix CDs (Neck Exercise Parts 1 & 2) and
is featured on a shit load of releases with San Diegos ever
prolific Icons crew. He also did cuts for Planet Asias newest
				work.

			   08) Double Dee & Steinski "Jazz" (4:55)
Another inspired recording from the legendary and highly influential
New York duo of Double Dee & Steinski who, since arriving
in the early 1980s with their pioneering cut-and-paste approach
to hip hop, have inspired numerous DJs/producers including Coldcut,
Eddie Def, DJ Shadow, and Cut Chemist. Recorded in 1998 and previously
only available on limited white-label vinyl and on the extremely
underground Beg, Borrow & Steal CD, Jazz
was the first collaboration by Steinski and Double Dee in a little
over a decade, since 1986 when they recorded both Lesson
3 and the beginings of (completists note) their never finished
Lesson 4. Steinski, who is featured on such recent
collections as Constant Elevation (Astralwerks) and Bombay
2: Electric Vindaloo (Motel), has just dropped the recommended
solo, full-length mix Nothing To Fear. steinski@sboom.com

			   09) Deeandroid & Celskiii "Live @ the Vulcan" (1:58)
In 1997 at 17 years old, we both saw Q-bert, Mixmaster
Mike & Shortkut perform their Klamz ov Deth routine
at Planet Rock. We were amazed and inspired to learn
how to skratch after seeing them. That started our love for skratching,
hungry for moreso we went to more events, where DJs showcased
their skills, regularly. We bought crappy equipment, learning
the basics, teaching ourselves while listening to ISP scratch
practice tapes and TTV videos. Shortkut exposed us to the best
DJs, taking us to Deco (although we were underage), absorbing
all that we heard. That was also the first place where we skratched
atand first time doing that in public. We also bugged Q
a lot, going to his house to listen to him practice for hours.
He helped us a lot, encouraging us to keep practicing, sharing
his music and musical influences with us. We were bedroom DJs
for years until 2000when we started mixing & skratching
at shows with the Sisterz of the Underground, an all womyn hip
hop collective. We also started mixing for Pilipino community
events, supporting issues relevant to usas Pinays. And we
started scratching at other hip hop events like Da Joint and also
at Hookt on Phonics, entering a spontaneous Female DJ Battle.
In 2001, we made a mixtape/CD, Ooh Mama, I got my Goohbaz,
D.I.Y. style. Right now were working on a music projectskratch
songs + more good music mixing. Some of our musical influences
include: Shortkut, MixmasterMike, D-Styles, Apollo, Jimi Hendrix,
Derrick D, Freestyle Fellowship, Coltrane, Monk, Ella Fitzgerald
and ofcourseQ-bert, a good friend and mentor. deeandroid@aol.com

Skit that begs the question: Cant we all (Limeys and Yanks)
just get along? If thats allowed.
			   11) Alien Army "Destroy" (2:47)
Scratched by Zak and produced, recorded, & mixed by Skizo,
this is another reason to be sure to get Alien Armys forthcoming
				full-length. www.alienarmy.net
			   12) Bas-1 & Billy Jam "I.D." (:08)
			   13) DJ Happee "Last Night I Ruled the World" (4:34)
Premiered on Scratch Attack this track is from DJ Happees
recent must-have debut album Cinematic Orchestra (Zone
Seven). San Diegos DJ Happee, who many may know from his
contribution (with parnter Dinoh) to BOMBs Return of
the DJ Vol. 4 and his recommended battle record Smoke Breaks,
started out as a mobile DJ in the 90s but soon switched
up and became a skratch/battle DJ. As such he entered numerous
local battles, quickly advancing into regional DMCs, but
by 1997 he decided to retire from the battle circuit and turn
his focus to producing. As such he has released a series of mix-CDs,
his aforementioned battle record, and his much anticipated album
Cinematic Orchestra. As for the album title, explains Happee,
A movie can make a person sad, angry, and happy at the same
time. Hence Cinematic. I simply got the Orchestra
part from the different sounds that were mixed together
.
				Cinematic Orchestra. djhappee@zone-seven.com www.zone-seven.com
			   14) DJ Spair "Your Typical Skratch Track" (2:39)
Another track premiered on Scratch Attack (with an intro
by sometime DJ Spair collaborator Bas-1) this track, which also
appeared on the viny-only Turntables By The Bay Vol. 3
(Hip Hop Slam), is an inspired composition from the 1999 URB DJ
Mix champ. DJ Spair is one half of the Oakland Faders who, along
with partner DJ Platurn, have won national acclaim for their 2001
debut record Fader Beats EP (Stray). They are currently
in production on the anticipated follow up, Fader Beats: Part
II. Look for Spair in QBerts DIY Vol. 2 DVD or spinning
at clubs around the Yay Area. oaklandfaders@hotmail.com
			   15) Bas-1 "DJ Shout-outs" (:25)
			   16) D-Styles, DJ Pone, & Snyak Eyez "First Half"
				(4:26)
Taken from one of the times when D-Styles (a regular show guest)
stopped by to join the 89 Skratch Gangstaz DJ Pone
and Snayk Eyez for a live skratch set that starts out loosely
reconstructing the Wave Twisters song Razorblade
Alcohol Slide. Note that the latter part of this session
(Morbid Innuendo Of The Skratch Kind) was featured
on the previous compilation, Scratch Attack Vol. 1. Hence
the title of this excerpt, First Half, which demonstrates
the collective talents of these three Bay Area natives. Most noteworthy
is the amazingly gifted D-Styles (Beat Junkies/former ISP), whose
long-awaited debut album (as distinct from his countless Dirt
Style battle records) Phantazmagorea is a must-have for
				any music fan. dave@waxfondler.com www.89skratch.com
			   17) DJ Quest & Live Human "Fr-Fre-Fre-Fresshhhhhhh!"
				(4:19)
Oh my God! That was the reaction both in the studio and on the
phone lines after we premiered this live Live Human track on Scratch
Attack on KPFA. The way this compostion brilliantly builds
on the interplay between DJ Quest and percussionist Albert Mathias
with bassist Andrew Kushin subtley complimenting his two partners
received such a overwhelmingly positive reaction that it led to
Live Human releasing the entire concert (recorded at the Great
Amercian Music Hall in July 2001) as an album, the limited edition
Live Human Live on C.O.D. Records. Live Humans
discography includes1987s Live Human Featuring DJ Quest,
				1999s Monostereosis, and 2000s Elephish
Jellyphant. If you ever have a chance to see this trio in
concert, do NOT miss the opportunity! For Live Human bookings:

DJ Marvel when the two decided to form the turntable crew The

for Scratch Attack where it premiered.

Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money, Magic Mike, Aladdin, Joe Cooley, and Hijack
DJs Supreme & Undercover. DJ Marvel was born in Plymouth,
Southwest England in 1977. He started DJing in the summer
of 93 at age sixteen. gavisdjmarvel@aol.com
