SCRATCH ATTACK: TOO HARD FOR THE FUCKIN RADIO
Popular Hip Hop Slam Radio Show Kicked Off the Air

March 1, 2002 — "Scratch Attack: I Want My Battle Record Back You Bastard!" the Hip Hop Slam produced two-hour, monthly radio show dedicated to the skratch art-form was recently kicked off Berkeley radio station KPFA where it broadcast from January 2001 until February 2002. During it's thirteen month run the show, which was also streamed live on the web, featured a mix of recorded & live DJ skratch sessions plus scratch DJ news and interviews. It's long list of guests included Kool Herc, Grand Wizard Theodore, D-Styles, DJ Flare, DJ Shortkut, DJ Apollo, DJ 8-Ball, DJ Relm, DJ Inesha (Alien Army), DJ Quest, Pam the Funkstress (The Coup), Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Malik ("The Real World"), Namane (Local 1200 DJ's), DJ Pone, Mike Boogie, Snayk Eyez, (89 Skratch Gangstaz), Golden Chyld, DJ Ngobility, (Finger Bangerz), DJ Stoic, DJ Streak, 2 Fresh, DJ Sniper, DJ Tu Ki, Prince Jam, DJ Platurn & DJ Spair (Oakland Faders), The Backspin Boyz, DJ Marz, Pal 58, DJ Cavo, Toadman, H.O.P., Tico, The Horizons DJ Project, & Christie Z (Tools Of War). The show also included regular skratch news reports by DJ Munkifunk and Billy Jam, graf reports by Yve-1, & DJ battle reports from Bas-One and DJ Pone. Other regulars included DJ Gamin (videographer), Mosi Reeves (editorials), and DJ Syntax (board engineer & dank tales) plus a myriad of guests who stopped by just to hang out and enjoy the skratch-friendly environment.

The reason given for the show's abrupt cancellation was an allegation of drinking and smoking in the Pacifica radio station building. "Yeah, right, whatever!" said producer Billy Jam, "But ultimately it is the listeners' loss especially since on the next show we were scheduled to have the DJs from the 'Scratch' tour stop by." Associate producer DJ Pone added that, "By no means is this the end of a Hip Hop Slam scratch show," noting that a similar (only better) type show would soon be broadcasting on the web in a streaming audio/video format. (For details/updates on this next skratch show, check this site regularly.)

And for those who missed the KPFA run of "Scratch Attack" Hip Hop Slam will be releasing two CD compilations featuring highlights of the short-lived show.
